This is the fifth day\u00a0in a series of posts written about our\u00a02016 EV Roadtrip\u00a0written in the same manner as our\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/pascual.co\/ActiveE\/2015\/05\/roadtripping-the-u-s-a-day-01\/\">2015 trip. \u00a0Here, There, and EVerywhere Trip &#8211; Day 01<\/a>, i.e. summaries written for each day of the trip, published each day, this time\u00a0<\/em><em>two months\u00a0from the day of the trip.\u00a0It may seem funny to some to have a summer trip published at the start of the Fall, think of it as some daily entertainment for those that are back in their offices thinking about their past summer trips that could have been or thinking about their next trip.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Missed the previous day&#8217;s post, <a href=\"http:\/\/pascual.co\/ActiveE\/2016\/09\/the-long-way-round-day-04\/\">click here to read Day 4\u00a0of this trip<\/a>. \u00a0You&#8217;re just joining us on this trip? \u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/pascual.co\/ActiveE\/2016\/09\/the-long-way-round-day-01\/\">Click here for Day 1<\/a> and start from the beginning!<\/p>\n<p>So, why the long way round? Well&#8230; We got four referrals on the Fourth Tesla Referral Program (May 30, 2016 to July 15, 2016) and we expected to get an invite to the Gigafactory Party, so we thought to start our trip and\u00a0go to Reno (a nearly 500 mile direct drive from home) via the Pacific Northwest (about a 1600 mile detour) with the intermediate goal of attending the <a href=\"http:\/\/evroadmapconference.com\/\">EV Roadmap 9\u00a0Conference<\/a> in Portland, visiting family who were spending time in Seattle, WA and family in Vancouver, BC before turning back for the party.<\/p>\n<p>So, what do we have in store today? We&#8217;ve achieved our intermediate goal and attended <a href=\"http:\/\/www.evroadmapconference.com\/\">EV Roadmap 9<\/a>\u00a0conference at Portland&#8217;s World Trade Center. \u00a0So, we&#8217;re now on our way to the Gigafactory&#8230; After we visit family in the Seattle area and Vancouver, BC area.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><b>Day 5\u00a0&#8211; Portland to Seattle, WA area<\/b><\/span><b><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">.<\/span>\u00a0 July 21, 2016<\/b><\/p>\n<p><a title=\"IMG_20160722_104830\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/8245538@N06\/28194455640\/in\/photostream\/\" data-flickr-embed=\"true\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/c1.staticflickr.com\/9\/8493\/28194455640_f35b2c2934_c.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_20160722_104830\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" \/><\/a><script async=\"\" src=\"\/\/embedr.flickr.com\/assets\/client-code.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p><a title=\"IMG_20160722_104746\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/8245538@N06\/28372532322\/in\/photostream\/\" data-flickr-embed=\"true\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/c3.staticflickr.com\/9\/8053\/28372532322_8822ef2a44_c.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_20160722_104746\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" \/><\/a><script async=\"\" src=\"\/\/embedr.flickr.com\/assets\/client-code.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Interestingly enough, it looks like we had no vampire drain last night. We rolled in with 195 miles of range and rolled out with 195 miles of range. We had a little bit of a late start for our drive to Seattle. The distance between the two cities is rather short compared to our other drives that we figured that we should be fine even with the late start.<\/p>\n<p>For those unfamiliar, Portland, OR is actually very close to the border with Washington State. \u00a0So, when we headed North from our hotel toward Seattle, it wasn&#8217;t long until we saw the following sign on our bridge crossing.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"IMG_2018\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/8245538@N06\/27869826904\/in\/datetaken\/\" data-flickr-embed=\"true\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/c1.staticflickr.com\/8\/7732\/27869826904_036a4c24f7_c.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_2018\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/a><script async=\"\" src=\"\/\/embedr.flickr.com\/assets\/client-code.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>And we were greeted with signs for Vancouver&#8230; Washington.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"IMG_2019\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/8245538@N06\/27869828104\/in\/datetaken\/\" data-flickr-embed=\"true\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/c1.staticflickr.com\/9\/8852\/27869828104_0f47b96445_c.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_2019\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/a><script async=\"\" src=\"\/\/embedr.flickr.com\/assets\/client-code.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>You know that the border crossing occurs often when the state sign is pretty understated.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"IMG_2021\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/8245538@N06\/27869831354\/in\/datetaken\/\" data-flickr-embed=\"true\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/c3.staticflickr.com\/9\/8691\/27869831354_7de604e867_c.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_2021\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/a><script async=\"\" src=\"\/\/embedr.flickr.com\/assets\/client-code.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Not quite at the border, there was a better state sign.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"IMG_2022\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/8245538@N06\/27869832654\/in\/datetaken\/\" data-flickr-embed=\"true\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/c7.staticflickr.com\/9\/8063\/27869832654_2f5bd05e50_c.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_2022\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/a><script async=\"\" src=\"\/\/embedr.flickr.com\/assets\/client-code.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>But the border was where the understated sign was.<\/p>\n<p>We actually encountered some rain on this part of the drive and were quite happy about that. My expectations for a trip to the Pacific Northwest is to have some rain. As it was, we&#8217;ve had nothing but perfect weather. So, let&#8217;s consider this truck of cut trees as step one on this life-cycle plan. Our goal is to follow the wood through its process.<\/p>\n<p>In the meantime, though we had some provisions from <a href=\"https:\/\/model3ownersclub.com\/members\/melindav.96\/\">MelindaV<\/a>, we were nearing one of the places that Chef <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/jennlouis\">Jenn Louis<\/a> recommended. It was a Mexican restaurant in Centralia, WA that was about a mile from the superchargers.<\/p>\n<p>As we got closer to Centralia, we saw\u00a0some strangely colored Washington cows&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"IMG_2043\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/8245538@N06\/28203149720\/\" data-flickr-embed=\"true\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/c1.staticflickr.com\/9\/8769\/28203149720_c03fd1683b_c.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_2043\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/a><script async=\"\" src=\"\/\/embedr.flickr.com\/assets\/client-code.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p><strong>Downtown Centralia, WA<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>As I wrote about yesterday, Chef&#8217;s usually know good places to eat, so we took her suggestion and headed to Downtown Centralia, WA. \u00a0The exit was one before the Tesla Supercharger in the same town.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"IMG_20160722_122616\" in Centralia (1001 W Main St, Centralia, WA 98531.) \u00a0They&#8217;ve been open\u00a0since 1997 and only a little over a mile away from the supercharger, a must stop. \u00a0Some may supercharge and take local transportation to the restaurant and back. \u00a0I would suggest to just stop, enjoy the meal, and then head over to the supercharger.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"IMG_2049\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/8245538@N06\/28486378915\/in\/datetaken\/\" data-flickr-embed=\"true\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" Friday rather than try to squeeze them into the return drive. \u00a0We plan on leaving Vancouver and head South on or around Tuesday and expect to pass Centralia on that day. \u00a0It&#8217;s also important to note the sign that lets customers know that they do not serve &#8220;chips&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"IMG_20160722_123324\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/8245538@N06\/28194505000\/in\/photostream\/\" data-flickr-embed=\"true\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" much from my wife&#8217;s subtle reminder NOT to be a smart aleck. \ud83d\ude09<\/p>\n<p>Instead of chips, they brought out these pickled vegetables. \u00a0I tried one, it was ok, but it gets a big thumbs up from the better half.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"IMG_2046\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/8245538@N06\/28486376095\/\" data-flickr-embed=\"true\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/\/embedr.flickr.com\/assets\/client-code.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>I was impressed with the production in Everett. \u00a0It wasn&#8217;t Broadway, but it was a high quality traveling production. \u00a0The acting and direction was entertaining and the singing and dancing were superb.<\/p>\n<p>We were going to take our niece for Ice Cream after the show, but she was tired and it was time to take her back to the hotel.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"IMG_2096\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/8245538@N06\/28486446415\/in\/datetaken\/\" data-flickr-embed=\"true\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/c8.staticflickr.com\/8\/7736\/28486446415_9f82f96365_b.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_2096\" width=\"768\" height=\"1024\" \/><\/a><script async=\"\" src=\"\/\/embedr.flickr.com\/assets\/client-code.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>After all the driving for the day, we parked at the hotel with 78 miles of range.
