{"id":2385,"date":"2016-05-03T10:09:36","date_gmt":"2016-05-03T17:09:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pascual.co\/ActiveE\/?p=2385"},"modified":"2016-05-03T10:09:36","modified_gmt":"2016-05-03T17:09:36","slug":"tracking-an-interesting-tesla-motors-powered-roadtrips-from-afar","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/pascual.co\/ActiveE\/roadtrip\/tracking-an-interesting-tesla-motors-powered-roadtrips-from-afar\/","title":{"rendered":"Tracking an interesting Tesla Motors powered roadtrips from afar"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s another year that we&#8217;re committed to things around Southern California, so, we&#8217;re missing the <a href=\"http:\/\/teslaroadtrip.org\/\">East Coast festivities for the Tesla Roadtrip (2016 theme is &#8220;Future Meets the Past&#8221;.)<\/a> Typically, as the weather warms up, many of my Twitter friends start driving around.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0Tesla Roadtrip guys started out as the group from DC to disprove the John Broder, New York Times &#8220;review&#8221;\u00a0that painted the\u00a0&#8220;horrors&#8221; of supercharging in the early days. \u00a0These Tesla aficionados set out with a few cars to show that John Broder was &#8220;less than accurate&#8221; in his depiction. \u00a0Subsequently, they also had a big caravan that headed out to TMC Connect 2014, I forget which year, and\u00a0were the guys that served as the <a href=\"http:\/\/pascual.co\/ActiveE\/2015\/06\/lessons-learned-plan-cross-country-ev\/\">inspiration to our coast to cast drive last year<\/a>. (<a href=\"http:\/\/pascual.co\/ActiveE\/2015\/05\/roadtripping-the-u-s-a-day-01\/\">Here&#8217;s Day 1<\/a>&#8230;)<\/p>\n<p>When we&#8217;re unable to make a nice long drive in our Tesla, I like to use Twitter and the forums to read about folks who are taking nice long drives in their cars. \u00a0I&#8217;ve tracked <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/EnduranceDriver\">@EnduranceDriver<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/p85ddeena\">@p85ddeena<\/a> set some records last year. Not the sort of coast to coast driving that I&#8217;m accustomed on doing. But it was entertaining to see this team break the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Cannonball_Baker_Sea-To-Shining-Sea_Memorial_Trophy_Dash\">Cannonball Baker or Cannonball Run\u00a0<\/a>using Autopilot in a P85D Model S followed with another drive that went from LA to NY to LA. He is often seen around Twitter adding to his miles. (180k+ miles last time I read on Twitter.) He&#8217;s DC based, though one wouldn&#8217;t know with recent tweets placing him in Seattle, California, Texas, and the like (on two separate trips.)<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-lang=\"en\"><p>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/WaitingForTesla\">@WaitingForTesla<\/a> congrats! To put that into perspective to my fellow Americans and those geographically challenged, that&#8217;s like going from San Diego, CA (I picked that on purpose, &#8217;cause Perth, AU reminds me a lot of Southern California and San Diego in particular) to Baltimore, MD (or thereabouts) It&#8217;s basically 100 miles or so shorter than the Cannonball Run (from the Red Ball Garage, Manhattan, NY to the Portofino Inn, Redondo Beach, CA (the same one that @endurancedriver and @p85ddeena hold EV records in.)<\/p>\n<p>One BIG thing\u00a0to note with these guys trip is that the Superchargers in Australia are only currently between <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/maps\/dir\/650+Church+St,+Cremorne+VIC+3121,+Australia\/Cassegrain+Wines,+Fernbank+Creek+Road,+Port+Macquarie,+New+South+Wales,+Australia\/@-34.7323723,144.3642813,6z\/am=t\/data=!3m1!4b1!4m14!4m13!1m5!1m1!1s0x6ad6428f95ca3941:0xf99ed0debae3495f!2m2!1d144.9958071!2d-37.831997!1m5!1m1!1s0x6b9dffe29d933001:0x5f3eca67fb223efc!2m2!1d152.8265288!2d-31.4384538!3e0\">Melbourne and just North of Sydney<\/a>. \u00a0That distance is approximately the distance between driving from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/maps\/dir\/Tesla+Supercharger,+2410+Marine+Ave,+Redondo+Beach,+CA+90278\/Tesla+Supercharger,+Northwest+6th+Street,+Grants+Pass,+Oregon\/@38.1015233,-125.3348045,6z\/data=!3m1!4b1!4m13!4m12!1m5!1m1!1s0x80c2b43f8fd60da9:0x123bbc8bb9dde0f3!2m2!1d-118.3675361!2d33.8941614!1m5!1m1!1s0x54c579fb74dea73d:0xde8682a659326dc5!2m2!1d-123.3232301!2d42.4607704\">Tesla Supercharger in Redondo Beach, CA to the Tesla Supercharger\u00a0in Grants Pass, OR<\/a>\u00a0plus an additional 40 or so miles. \u00a0This means that the majority of the drive for this team will NOT be on Superchargers. \u00a0They won&#8217;t experience the joy and speed of supercharging their car until they reach Melbourne and the one at the other end of their journey in <a href=\"http:\/\/supercharge.info\/\">Brisbane is &#8220;in permit status&#8221; according to supercharge.info<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-partner=\"tweetdeck\"><p>\nAnd so it begins.
