{"id":2218,"date":"2015-10-04T00:25:12","date_gmt":"2015-10-04T07:25:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pascual.co\/ActiveE\/?p=2218"},"modified":"2015-10-04T00:25:12","modified_gmt":"2015-10-04T07:25:12","slug":"observations-from-the-model-x-launch-party","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/pascual.co\/ActiveE\/tesla\/observations-from-the-model-x-launch-party\/","title":{"rendered":"Observations from the Model X Launch Party"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On the morning of September 21, 2015, I received an email from Tesla.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Model X Invite 2015-09-21\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/8245538@N06\/21929018121\/in\/datetaken\/\" data-flickr-embed=\"true\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm6.staticflickr.com\/5787\/21929018121_131015d619_z.jpg\" alt=\"Model X Invite 2015-09-21\" width=\"600\" height=\"591\" \/><\/a><script src=\"\/\/embedr.flickr.com\/assets\/client-code.js\" async=\"\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>It was an invite to the Model X Launch Party.<\/p>\n<p>It is\u00a0a surprising invite as my wife and I do not have a reservation for the Model X. The event was going to be held at Fremont and I figured to go ahead and RSVP positively as Tesla events tend to &#8220;sell out&#8221; quickly. I figured that we could always cancel a positive RSVP if it turned out that we would not be able to make the 350+ miles from our home to the party.<\/p>\n<p>We decided to go.<\/p>\n<p>The trip to Fremont is approximately 350 miles and through a minimum of two superchargers for us (assuming a good charge at home to start.) However, it would turn out that this trip will be using a Loaner 70D and not our S85. I will write about the trip in a later blog post and focus this post on the actual Model X Launch Party and our impressions of the car itself.<\/p>\n<p>So, the start of the party is at a Fremont location that used to be the Solyndra headquarters. This is\u00a0the same building that <a href=\"http:\/\/fortune.com\/2015\/06\/11\/tesla-leased-solyndra-plant\/\">Tesla was recently in the news for Tesla&#8217;s expansion into the space<\/a>. It&#8217;s nice to see Tesla re-purposing a new asset for this party before they re-furbish the location for their expansion. We had expected to be directed to these overflow lots, but lucked out and parked in the event parking location.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"IMG_20150929_183812\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/8245538@N06\/21638449789\/in\/album-72157656951796793\/\" data-flickr-embed=\"true\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm6.staticflickr.com\/5721\/21638449789_b17d7f9c37_z.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_20150929_183812\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>With a happy Dennis at the end of the line for the event. Tesla was pretty well organized at the early portion of the event and the line was winding in an orderly manner. So, I had my mobile reporting devices\/phones at the ready.<\/p>\n<p> <a title=\"image\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/8245538@N06\/21304761054\/in\/datetaken\/\" data-flickr-embed=\"true\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm6.staticflickr.com\/5737\/21304761054_ef879d028b_c.jpg\" alt=\"image\" width=\"598\" height=\"800\" \/><\/a><script src=\"\/\/embedr.flickr.com\/assets\/client-code.js\" async=\"\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>However, soon after the doors opened and the second set of folks in the line got into the building, the crowd descended into chaos and those of us following the queue were at a disadvantage. What had once been one of the more orderly starts to a Tesla event, morphed into a free-for-all.<\/p>\n<p>Knowing how late Elon usually is for these things, we knew that as late as we may be, Elon will be later. So we headed back there to get a better view.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"IMG_20150929_211709\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/8245538@N06\/21882251602\/in\/album-72157656951796793\/\" data-flickr-embed=\"true\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm6.staticflickr.com\/5754\/21882251602_96ac4745aa_z.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_20150929_211709\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We had a better view of the festivities, but a poor opportunity for further pictures. \u00a0(like the one with the Model X pulling the Airstream, etc.)<\/p>\n<p>So, we just\u00a0watched the rest of the presentation from the holding room.<\/p>\n<p>One thing that we did get to do was to get in line for a ride in a production Model X.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"IMG_20150929_211907\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/8245538@N06\/21868067336\/in\/album-72157656951796793\/\" data-flickr-embed=\"true\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm1.staticflickr.com\/612\/21868067336_81d5e61b9c_z.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_20150929_211907\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This was through the randomized badge holders that we received when we got to the event and we got our numbers in the 600s for the ride. so minutes of waiting, and we were getting closer to the front.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"IMG_0129\" surprised to have been invited to the Model X Launch and appreciate it. \u00a0I can say that after taking the time to experience the vehicle, we are now tempted to get one. \u00a0Eventually.
